Actor Xian Lim is set to reach a major personal milestone as he completes a degree in Music Production through an alternative education program, marking the end of a long journey that began with early work experience as a teenager.
Lim shared that he started working at the age of 15, taking on his first job in a restaurant. He would go straight to his shift after school, balancing work and studies while learning responsibility at a young age.
He later worked at Costco in the United States while continuing to manage both employment and education. Eventually, he moved to the Philippines, where an unexpected opportunity in the entertainment industry led him into acting full-time.
As his career in showbiz grew, Lim eventually put his formal studies on hold. He spent years focused on acting and other professional commitments, which delayed his return to school.
After more than a decade, Lim decided to pursue his unfinished education, enrolling under the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP), a government initiative that allows working professionals to earn college degrees based on work experience and competencies.
The program is administered through the Commission on Higher Education and is designed to help individuals complete academic degrees without going through the traditional full-time classroom setup.
Lim said he initially struggled with the decision to go back to school, citing doubts, embarrassment, and fear of failing, especially after being away from formal education for many years.
Despite these concerns, he eventually pushed through and completed his academic requirements, earning a degree in Music Production from De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde.
The actor described the experience as a long-awaited personal achievement after years of balancing work and personal growth, noting that finishing his studies filled a gap he had long carried.
Lim is expected to graduate on July 4 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), where he will formally receive his degree.
