Zaldy Co Files Supreme Court Petition From Sweden Against Ombudsman
FILE
Former Ako Bicol party-list Representative Elizaldy “Zaldy” Co has filed a petition before the Supreme Court of the Philippines seeking a temporary restraining order (TRO) to halt the Ombudsman’s prosecution over alleged flood control project anomalies.

Court documents show that Co personally appeared before a notary public in Stockholm, Sweden, on January 15, 2026, verifying his identity and signing the necessary legal papers. The petition also includes certifications and notarizations in compliance with international legal requirements.

In the filing, Co claims the Ombudsman acted with grave abuse of discretion and seeks to annul the resolution recommending criminal charges against him in the Sandiganbayan.

The Supreme Court has placed the petition on its agenda and will decide whether to grant the TRO, despite Co being declared a fugitive from justice.

The Office of the Ombudsman criticized the filing as a potential dilatory tactic but confirmed that its investigation and legal action against Co will continue.
