The Office of the Ombudsman has denied the request of former Speaker of the House and Leyte 1st District Representative Ferdinand Martin Romualdez to travel to Singapore for a reported medical check-up, citing an ongoing investigation and an existing lookout bulletin order.
Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said the request was not approved because Romualdez is among individuals under active investigation, and authorities have imposed a lookout bulletin through immigration.
He explained that the request involved a five-day trip, but the Ombudsman opted not to lift the travel restriction as part of its ongoing probe into alleged irregularities involving public funds.
Remulla also raised concerns over the timing of the request, noting recent developments in related investigations involving other individuals linked to the case. He said authorities are being cautious as the probe continues.
He added that allowing individuals under investigation to travel abroad poses risks, including the possibility that they may not return while proceedings are ongoing.
The Ombudsman has issued lookout bulletin orders for several individuals as part of its investigation, allowing authorities to monitor their movements while cases remain under review.
As of now, Romualdez remains in the country while the Ombudsman continues its inquiry into the matter.
