Rizal Government Urges Full Probe After Green Leap Landfill Incident

The Rizal Provincial Government is drawing a firm line following the trash slide incident at the Green Leap Sanitary Landfill — making it clear where it stands and where its responsibility begins and ends.

In an official statement, Governor Nina Ynares emphasized one crucial point: despite carrying the province’s name, the landfill is neither owned nor operated by the Provincial Government of Rizal. The facility, she clarified, is managed by a private company, and its operations are outside the direct control of the provincial government.

Still, the province is not turning a blind eye.

Reports have surfaced that several individuals were allegedly buried and may have died in the incident. Governor Ynares stressed that every life matters and that the provincial government does not — and will never — tolerate any activity that disregards the dignity and rights of any citizen.

With that, the provincial government has formally called on the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to conduct a thorough, immediate, and transparent investigation. The goal, according to the statement, is clear: uncover the full truth, hold accountable whoever may be responsible, and ensure that such a tragedy will not happen again.

For the Rizal Provincial Government, public safety and accountability under the law remain non-negotiable priorities.

As the investigation unfolds, the province says it stands firm on one principle — the protection of life and the pursuit of justice above all else.
