RJ Abarrientos continues to prove why he is one of the PBA's rising stars.
The Barangay Ginebra guard was named the PBA Press Corps Player of the Week after playing a key role in the Gin Kings' strong finish to their semifinal series against Rain or Shine and helping secure a return trip to the Commissioner's Cup Finals.
Abarrientos delivered some of his best performances of the conference during the week, highlighted by a dominant showing in Ginebra's series-clinching victory over the Elasto Painters. The young guard poured in 30 points while also contributing seven assists, six rebounds, and three steals as the Gin Kings wrapped up the semifinal series and punched their ticket to the championship round.
The recognition adds another milestone to what has been a breakout run for Abarrientos, who has become one of Ginebra's most reliable weapons alongside import Justin Brownlee. Throughout the conference, the former Korean Basketball League Rookie of the Year has consistently provided scoring, playmaking, and clutch performances whenever the Gin Kings needed them most.
Abarrientos has been instrumental in Ginebra's deep playoff run, delivering big shots in crucial moments. Earlier in the conference, he helped the Gin Kings secure the No. 2 seed with a late-game dagger against TNT, further cementing his reputation as one of the league's emerging clutch performers.
The award also highlights the rapid rise of the 26-year-old playmaker since joining Ginebra as the third overall pick in the 2024 PBA Draft. After earning Rookie of the Year honors and a PBA All-Star selection, Abarrientos has continued to elevate his game in Season 50, emerging as one of the league's top local scorers.
With Abarrientos playing some of the best basketball of his young career, Ginebra now heads into the Commissioner's Cup Finals carrying momentum and confidence as it chases another championship.
For the Gin Kings, the timing could not be better. And for Abarrientos, the latest Player of the Week award is further proof that he is becoming one of the faces of the league's next generation.
