Safer Home For Manila Boystown As Meralco Foundation Steps In
Contributed Photo
A simple infrastructure upgrade is making a big difference for the children of Manila Boystown Complex, thanks to the efforts of One Meralco Foundation.
Led by business leader Manuel V. Pangilinan, the foundation teamed up with Manila Electric Company to replace old and leaning private electric poles inside the Boystown compound. The goal was straightforward but crucial—ensure the safety of both staff and the children living in the orphanage.
The newly installed poles are expected to provide a more secure environment, reducing risks that could come from unstable structures, especially during bad weather.
The turnover ceremony brought together key officials and volunteers, led by Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno and Vice Mayor Chi Atienza, alongside OMF President Jeffrey Tarayao. Employee volunteers from Meralco’s España and Malate business centers, as well as the Manila Sector, also joined in the initiative.
Beyond the physical upgrades, the project highlights how partnerships between the private sector and local government can directly improve everyday life—especially for vulnerable communities.
For the children of Manila Boystown, it’s more than just new poles. It’s a step toward a safer place they can call home.
