Samsung Reveals Secret Behind Galaxy Buds4 Pro's Clear Calls

Samsung has pulled back the curtain on the technology powering the impressive call quality of its new Galaxy Buds4 Pro, highlighting a combination of advanced sensors, artificial intelligence, and real-world testing designed to help users stay heard even in the noisiest environments.

For many wireless earbud users, making phone calls in crowded streets, busy cafes, or noisy public spaces can be a frustrating experience. Samsung says it set out to solve that problem with a new Sensor Fusion technology that allows Galaxy Buds4 Pro to better capture and separate a user’s voice from surrounding noise.

Unlike traditional earbuds that rely heavily on a single microphone, the Galaxy Buds4 Pro combines data from multiple sources. The earbuds feature three microphones and a Voice Pickup Unit (VPU) sensor that detects vibrations generated when a person speaks. By combining these inputs, the system can accurately identify a user’s voice while filtering out unwanted background sounds.

At the heart of the technology is an AI-powered Deep Neural Network (DNN), which Samsung says has been optimized to run directly on the earbuds. Despite the limited space and computing power available in a wireless earbud, the company managed to significantly reduce the processing requirements while maintaining powerful voice-enhancement capabilities.

Samsung said the upgraded system captures up to 16 times more vocal detail compared to previous models, helping preserve speech clarity, including subtle tones, consonants, and word endings that are often lost in noisy conditions.

The earbuds also adapt to changes in fit and movement. As users walk, talk, or adjust the earbuds, the system continuously monitors sound leakage and automatically compensates for it to maintain consistent call quality.

When paired with a Galaxy smartphone, the Galaxy Buds4 Pro can further enhance voice transmission through a Super Wideband (SWB) connection of up to 16 kHz, delivering more natural and detailed audio during calls.

To validate the technology, Samsung subjected the earbuds to extensive testing. Engineers recreated challenging acoustic conditions in laboratories using large wind simulators and recordings from real-world locations. The company also tested the earbuds in busy cafes, department stores, train stations, outdoor environments, and even inside moving vehicles with windows down.

According to Samsung, the combination of Sensor Fusion technology, AI-powered noise reduction, and rigorous real-world testing allows the Galaxy Buds4 Pro to overcome many of the limitations traditionally associated with true wireless earbuds.
