Sandiganbayan Allows Bong Revilla To Skip Hearings Temporarily In Malversation Case

The Sandiganbayan Third Division has granted the request of former Senator Bong Revilla to be excused from personally attending court hearings in his malversation case linked to the alleged ghost flood control projects—at least while the prosecution is still presenting its evidence.

The court allowed Revilla to waive his appearance for now, meaning he will no longer be required to physically attend the ongoing hearings until the prosecution wraps up its presentation, unless the court later orders otherwise.

According to his lawyer, Atty. Reody Anthony Balisi, the prosecution’s presentation of evidence is expected to continue until July 29, which effectively sets the timeline for Revilla’s temporary absence from the proceedings.

Revilla did not appear in court on Tuesday, May 20, and is currently staying at the Quezon City Jail while the case continues.

The development comes after the court earlier granted a 30-day extension for issuing a resolution on the bail petitions filed by Revilla and his co-accused in the same case.

The case stems from allegations involving supposed irregularities in government flood control projects, which have long been under legal scrutiny.
