Vice President Sara Duterte has called for a permanent ban on motorcades and vehicle caravans across the country, citing rising fuel prices, worsening pollution, and traffic congestion as key concerns.
In a statement dated March 3, 2026, the vice president appealed to Filipinos to reconsider organizing motorcades and similar events, whether for protests, celebrations, festivals, or political activities.
“Due to the recent rise in fuel prices and the serious concerns about air and noise pollution, I am appealing to people to reconsider organizing motorcades and vehicle caravans/parades as a form of protest,” Duterte said.
She pointed out that such activities contribute to higher fuel consumption, increase air and noise pollution, and cause heavy traffic, which inconveniences the general public.
While acknowledging the public’s right to express support or dissatisfaction with the government — including activities showing support for former president Rodrigo Duterte — Duterte emphasized the need to consider the broader impact on communities and the environment.
“While I fully understand the desire to gather and express anger against the administration or show support to Former President Rodrigo Duterte, it is, however, more important to be mindful of how these activities impact others and the environment,” she said.
The vice president encouraged citizens and groups to explore alternative forms of assembly that are less disruptive and more sustainable, especially as the country grapples with economic challenges.
She also highlighted other pressing issues that require attention, including job losses among overseas Filipino workers returning home and the rising cost of food and essential commodities.
Duterte further called on all Local Government Units (LGUs) to take decisive action.
“I call on all Local Government Units (LGUs) to permanently ban motorcades and vehicle caravans/parade whether for celebrations, festivals, or political intent,” she said.
Concluding her appeal, Duterte urged collective responsibility in maintaining safer and cleaner roads.
“Let us all do our part to keep our roads and our country safer, cleaner, and more efficient for everyone.”
