Malacañang has confirmed a leadership change in the government’s peace office, with Carlito Galvez Jr. stepping down as head of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU).
Palace Press Officer and PCO Undersecretary Claire Castro announced the development, signaling a transition in one of the administration’s key agencies handling peace efforts and reconciliation programs.
Taking over the role is former Interior secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento, who has been appointed as the new Presidential Adviser for Peace, Reconciliation and Unity.
The leadership shift places Sarmiento at the forefront of ongoing peace initiatives, including negotiations and reintegration programs aimed at addressing long-standing conflicts in the country.
Galvez, a former Armed Forces chief, played a significant role in advancing peace and security efforts during his tenure. His departure marks a notable change as the administration recalibrates its approach moving forward.
Malacañang has yet to release further details on the reason behind the transition, but officials say the change is part of efforts to sustain and strengthen the government’s peace agenda under new leadership.
