Sec. Dizon Leads Marikina Flood Control Inspection, Urges Cities To Follow Their Example
FILE
Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon took the lead on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, in inspecting ongoing flood control projects in Marikina City — showing firsthand why the city is being hailed as a model for urban water management.
Joined by Maan Teodoro and Marcy Teodoro, Dizon toured the Pasig-Marikina River Channel Improvement Project and the Sumulong culvert pipe/drainage construction, emphasizing the importance of proactive infrastructure in preventing flooding.
“We should follow the Marikina experience,” Dizon said, pointing to the city’s long-standing efforts in flood mitigation as a blueprint for other urban centers.
During the inspection, Dizon highlighted how strategic engineering, proper maintenance, and community engagement make Marikina a leading example of disaster-resilient planning.
By personally checking the sites, Dizon demonstrated the DPWH’s hands-on approach to ensuring that flood control projects not only meet standards but also truly protect communities.
As Marikina continues to invest in its drainage systems, Dizon’s visit sends a clear message: other cities can—and should—replicate Marikina’s proactive flood management practices to better safeguard residents.
