As the Senate Committee on Ethics finally convened its long-awaited organizational meeting, Senator Bong Go set the tone—calling for fairness, due process, and zero politics as the panel begins its mandate.

Speaking on the Senate floor on February 4, Go voiced his full support for the committee’s leadership and stressed that its work carries a heavy responsibility: protecting the credibility and integrity of the Senate itself. For him, public trust is on the line, and that trust can only be preserved if every decision is rooted in facts, evidence, and clearly established rules.

“At the outset, I would like to manifest my support for the Chairperson and this Committee as we convene for this organizational meeting,” Go said, noting that the ethics panel plays a crucial role in keeping the chamber’s reputation intact.

The meeting marked the committee’s first session in its fully constituted form—seven months into the opening of the 20th Congress—making Go’s reminder timely and pointed.

He urged fellow senators to stay grounded on the basics as the committee organizes its work. Due process and fairness, he said, must always come first. “Dapat po’y pantay-pantay ang trato dito ng lahat,” Go stressed, underscoring that everyone who appears before the committee deserves equal and just treatment.

Go was equally firm in warning against political interference. Ethics proceedings, he said, should never be driven by partisan interests. “Hindi dapat mahaluan ng pulitika ang trabaho natin sa komiteng ito,” he added.

In closing, Go reminded the committee that its decisions should be guided solely by facts, evidence, and rules—not personal or political considerations. For him, that is the only way the Senate Ethics Committee can truly live up to its name and protect the institution it serves.
