Speaker of the House Faustino “Bojie” Dy III visited affected fishing communities in Ramon, Isabela this week following the massive fish kill that struck parts of the province, assuring residents that immediate assistance is on the way while the national government works on a coordinated response.

Joined by Isabela Vice Governor Faustino Dy II, the Speaker met with local fisherfolk to personally assess the situation, hear their concerns, and receive updates from local officials.

He explained that the information gathered during the visit would help shape the national government's response and speed up the delivery of assistance to affected families.

Dy also revealed that he had already informed President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the Department of Agriculture about the incident before arriving in Ramon.

The Speaker acknowledged the devastating impact of the fish kill on local livelihoods, especially as many communities are still dealing with the effects of the prolonged drought that has also hurt agriculture across the province.

Dy assured affected families that the House will continue coordinating with concerned government agencies to provide immediate relief while pursuing long-term solutions to help prevent similar incidents in the future.

The fish kill in Magat Dam has already caused an estimated ₱120 million in losses, including more than ₱20 million in Ramon alone. Fisheries authorities said the incident was likely triggered by prolonged drought and extreme heat, which lowered water levels and reduced dissolved oxygen in the reservoir, making it difficult for fish to survive. Authorities are continuing to assess the full extent of the damage while implementing assistance measures for affected communities.
