The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) closed lower on Thursday, June 4, shedding 41.24 points or 0.69 percent to finish at 5,911.93 as investors remained cautious throughout the trading session.

The local benchmark struggled to maintain momentum, with declining stocks significantly outnumbering advancing issues. Market data showed that 105 stocks ended in the red, while 68 posted gains and 70 remained unchanged by the closing bell.

Trading activity remained steady, with total market turnover reaching PHP 6.9 billion, reflecting continued participation from both local and foreign investors despite the market's decline.

Foreign investors remained net sellers during the session. Foreign buying totaled PHP 3.94 billion, while foreign selling reached PHP 4.24 billion, resulting in a net foreign outflow of PHP 298.93 million. The continued foreign selling pressure added to the weakness seen in the broader market.

The latest trading results highlight the cautious sentiment among investors as they continue to assess economic developments and corporate updates that could influence market direction in the coming days.

With the PSEi now closing below the 5,920 level, market watchers will be keeping a close eye on whether investor confidence can improve enough to help the benchmark index recover in the next trading sessions.
