Super Typhoon Bavi has slightly weakened but remains an extremely powerful cyclone as it continues moving west-northwest over the Philippine Sea, according to the latest advisory from PAGASA.

As of 10 a.m. Tuesday, the center of Bavi was estimated about 1,845 kilometers east of Central Luzon, still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). The typhoon was packing maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour, gusts of up to 230 kph, and was moving west-northwest at 20 kph.

PAGASA said Bavi is expected to enter the PAR between Tuesday evening and early Wednesday, when it will be assigned the local name Inday. The weather bureau forecasts the typhoon to maintain its super typhoon strength as it enters the country's monitoring area before gradually weakening as it passes near Extreme Northern Luzon and east of Taiwan.

While the chance of a landfall in Luzon remains low, PAGASA warned that the typhoon's wide circulation could still bring strong winds to Northern Luzon. Wind Signals may be raised as early as Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning, with the highest possible warning reaching Signal No. 2 or 3. Parts of Southern Luzon and the Visayas may also be placed under wind signals depending on the typhoon's track and wind radius.

The enhanced southwest monsoon, or habagat, combined with the typhoon's outer circulation, is also expected to bring strong to gale-force winds across several areas. Most of Mindanao will experience these conditions on Tuesday, while more areas in Luzon, MIMAROPA, the Bicol Region, the Visayas, and Mindanao are expected to be affected on Wednesday. By Thursday, strong winds could extend across most parts of the country.

PAGASA also warned of rough to very rough sea conditions, with a Gale Warning expected to be issued starting Wednesday for the northern and eastern seaboards of the Philippines.

The weather bureau advised the public and local disaster management offices to continue monitoring official updates as Bavi approaches the country's area of responsibility.
