The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines issued a statement addressing recent media reports connecting a Taiwanese national to the Pasay drum case.
TECO explained that it immediately conducted verification after learning that the individual involved was being identified in some reports as a citizen of Taiwan. Upon reviewing the travel document presented by the person, the office determined that the passport was not an authentic Taiwanese-issued document.
A TECO representative personally met with the individual for identity confirmation. During the verification, the person was unable to provide a valid Taiwan national identification number and later stated that he is a Chinese citizen. He also shared that he obtained the unofficial passport through the Telegram platform.
TECO emphasized that the Government of Taiwan recognizes and respects the legal procedures of the Republic of the Philippines and will continue cooperating with Philippine agencies, especially on matters related to document authenticity and cross-border coordination.
The office also expressed appreciation for the cooperation extended by the Pasay City Police Station during the identity verification process.
