Filipino travelers can continue visiting Taiwan without a visa for another year after Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced the extension of its trial visa-free entry program for Philippine passport holders until July 31, 2027.
The extension will take effect from August 1, 2026, to July 31, 2027, allowing eligible Filipinos to enter Taiwan without applying for a visa under the country's ongoing visa-free initiative. The program also covers nationals of Thailand and Brunei as part of Taiwan's efforts to strengthen ties with countries under its New Southbound Policy.
The decision came after Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with several government agencies, reviewed the effectiveness of its existing visa and entry policies for travelers from Southeast Asia.
Officials said the extension aims to encourage tourism, business, and people-to-people exchanges while maintaining border security and public safety.
Aside from extending visa-free entry for Filipinos, Taiwan also renewed its Project for Simplifying Visa Regulations for High-End Group Tourists from Southeast Asian Countries until Dec. 31, 2027. The program covers organized tour groups from India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Laos.
Meanwhile, Taiwan will continue its conditional visa-free entry through the Online Application for the Republic of China (Taiwan) Travel Authorization Certificate (TAC), which also remains available for eligible travelers from India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Laos.
However, Cambodian nationals will no longer be covered by the high-end group tour program and the TAC scheme beginning Aug. 1, 2026.
Taiwan first introduced visa-free entry for Filipino travelers on a trial basis in 2017 as part of its New Southbound Policy, an initiative aimed at strengthening economic, cultural, educational, and tourism ties with Southeast Asia, South Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Since then, the program has been extended several times due to its positive impact on tourism and bilateral exchanges.
According to Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government will continue reviewing its visa policies to strengthen relations with partner countries, attract more international visitors, and ensure border and public security. The ministry also said it will continue working with foreign governments to improve travel arrangements for Taiwanese nationals abroad.
