The Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) has expressed its condolences to the family of a Grade 4 pupil who died in Cavite, while calling on the public to refrain from making premature judgments as authorities continue investigating the incident.

In a statement, the group said no words could ease the family's grief and urged everyone to allow the investigation to run its course so that the truth can be established and accountability determined through due process.

The TDC said the tragedy should also serve as a wake-up call to address the long-standing challenges facing the country's public schools.

According to the group, many schools continue to lack enough guidance counselors to support students' mental health and psychosocial needs. It also pointed to the shortage of security personnel, security equipment, school nurses, and other health workers needed to keep campuses safe and properly respond to emergencies.

The coalition added that teachers continue to perform duties that should be handled by other government agencies, including the Department of Health (DOH), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).

The TDC stressed that the Cavite incident should not be viewed as an isolated case but as a reflection of deeper systemic problems within the country's public education system.

The group called for increased funding, additional personnel, and stronger policies that will better protect both learners and teachers while improving the overall quality and safety of public schools.
