TNT Roars Back And Levels The Finals With Statement Win

Tropang 5G bounced back in a big way, flattening San Miguel Beer, 110-87, on Wednesday night at the MOA Arena to tie the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup Finals series at two games apiece. What happened in Game 3 was clearly left behind.

Leading the charge was Calvin Oftana, who turned in his best showing of the conference with 29 points, drilling five triples to spark TNT’s wire-to-wire domination. The outburst came just days after the Tropa absorbed a tough 95-89 loss, sealed by CJ Perez’s late scoring burst.

This time, TNT made sure there would be no late-game heartbreak. Oftana and company came out firing, seized control early, and never allowed the Beermen to settle—spoiling what should have been a celebratory night for June Mar Fajardo, who had just earned his 13th Best Player of the Conference award.

By the first quarter, TNT had already pulled away. By the second, the lead ballooned to as much as 28. Even the early exit of RR Pogoy due to another injury couldn’t slow the Tropa down.

“Best of three na lang, (we have a) big chance,” said Oftana, who also filled the stat sheet with six rebounds, four steals, and a block in over 35 minutes of action.

“So sad nawala uli si RR (Pogoy), pero meron naman ibang tao para lumaro sa posisyon. And we’ll just stick to the plan,” he added. “Next man up, kung sino ang available, double effort.”

Pogoy hit both of his three-point attempts before sitting out the rest of the game after just 7:37 of play.

TNT’s balance showed all night. Jordan Heading chipped in 17 points, Rey Nambatac added 13, and the entire squad shot a sizzling 50 percent from the field—far above their average from the first three games. San Miguel, meanwhile, was held to just 41.9 percent.

Oftana, Heading, and Nambatac all scored in double figures by halftime as TNT cruised into the break with a commanding 65-40 lead.

For coach Chot Reyes, the blowout was as much about mindset as execution.

“We took a bigger perspective (after that Game 3 loss). Yeah, we lost in the last minute, but I told the players, we got to the finals in the same way, ganoon talaga basketball. So I said let’s put this behind us,” Reyes said.

With momentum reset and confidence restored, TNT now heads to the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo on Friday for Game 5, where the Finals officially turn into a best-of-three showdown.
