Former senator Antonio Trillanes IV has filed a new cyberlibel complaint against Senators Alan Peter Cayetano and Rodante Marcoleta, along with 18 individuals identified as former bodyguards, over allegations made during a controversial Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing.

Trillanes announced on Thursday that the complaint was connected to statements aired during a supposed Senate inquiry, which he has repeatedly described as an illegitimate or "rogue" hearing. He said the latest filing is part of his continuing effort to challenge what he claims are false accusations being made against him.

The case stems from allegations raised during the supposed tSenate hearing earlier this month, where several former military personnel claimed they had delivered millions of pesos in cash to Trillanes on behalf of businessman and former congressman Zaldy Co. The witnesses alleged that the funds were intended for activities related to efforts surrounding the International Criminal Court's investigation of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

Trillanes has strongly denied the accusations, insisting that the claims are fabricated and politically motivated. He maintains that no evidence has been presented to support the allegations and that the statements have caused damage to his reputation.

According to reports, the former senator filed a complaint-affidavit before the Department of Justice, accusing the respondents of violating provisions of the Cybercrime Prevention Act through the online publication and dissemination of allegedly defamatory statements.

The legal action marks the latest development in an escalating dispute between Trillanes and personalities involved in the Senate investigation. Earlier this month, he also pursued complaints against several individuals whom he accused of spreading similar allegations through media appearances and social media platforms.

The controversy emerged following a disputed Blue Ribbon Committee proceeding that drew criticism from some lawmakers and legal observers, who questioned the legitimacy of the hearing and argued that it was used to publicize unverified claims against political opponents.

Trillanes indicated that he is prepared to file additional cases if the allegations continue to be repeated publicly.

Cayetano, Marcoleta, and the other respondents have yet to issue detailed statements regarding the latest cyberlibel complaint.
