Tropical Storm ADA continues to move northwestward over the sea east of Eastern Visayas, maintaining its strength and prompting warnings for residents and mariners in affected areas. As of 4:00 PM on January 16, 2026, the storm was located 255 km east-northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar, with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 80 km/h.
The storm is moving northwest at 20 km/h, with strong to gale-force winds extending up to 400 km from the center. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 in several areas, warning of strong winds and minimal to minor impacts on life and property. Affected areas include parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, particularly coastal and upland communities.
Residents in low-lying or exposed coastal areas of Bicol and Eastern Visayas are also at risk of storm surges of up to 2 meters, while heavy rainfall and gusty winds are expected to continue in the coming days.
Mariners are advised to exercise extreme caution, with very rough seas up to 5 meters forecasted along the eastern seaboards of Southern Luzon and Northern Samar. Small vessels and motorbancas are strongly discouraged from venturing out to sea until conditions improve.
PAGASA forecasts that ADA will continue moving generally northwest today and tomorrow, then shift north-northwest to northeast by Sunday. While the storm is expected to remain a tropical storm over the sea east of Visayas and Southern Luzon, it may weaken into a tropical depression by Tuesday, January 20, and into a remnant low by Wednesday, January 21, due to the northeast monsoon.
Authorities and disaster risk management offices urge residents in highly susceptible areas to prepare for possible evacuations, monitor local advisories, and take necessary measures to protect life and property. The next bulletin will be issued at 11:00 PM today.
