Tulfo Files Bill To Cut Fuel Taxes if Oil Hits 80 Dollars

Senator Erwin Tulfo has filed a measure that seeks to automatically suspend certain fuel taxes if global oil prices reach a critical level.
On Thursday, March 5, Tulfo filed Senate Bill No. 1935, which proposes the automatic suspension of the excise tax on fuel and a reduction in the value-added tax (VAT) once the price of Dubai Crude hits $80 per barrel.
The proposed measure aims to help ease the financial burden on consumers, especially motorists and public transport operators, whenever global oil prices surge.
Under the bill, the tax adjustments would take effect immediately once the Dubai Crude benchmark reaches the $80 per barrel threshold, allowing the government to quickly respond to rising fuel costs without waiting for further legislative action.
Tulfo said the proposal is meant to cushion the impact of volatile oil prices on Filipino consumers and the broader economy, as higher fuel prices often lead to increases in transportation fares and the cost of basic goods.
