Udalo Bridge In Occidental Mindoro Nears Completion, Residents See Relief

Occidental Mindoro is finally a step closer to reconnecting one of its long-delayed road links. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced that construction on the Udalo Bridge along the Abra De Ilog–Puerto Galera Road is set to be finished this year, after being stalled for over three years.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has urged the DPWH to accelerate the project, which is part of the Mindoro Circumferential Road and considered a critical “missing link” for the province.

Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon inspected the site and emphasized the urgency of completing the remaining 25 lineal meters of the bridge. “Nakakalungkot kasi buhay ng tao yung pinaglalaruan dito eh, di ba? Nakita mo naman kanina yung mga nagmomotor, buti ngayon Summer nakakadaan sila, eh kung tag-ulan? Tapos kapag naglalakad ka, dito ka bababa [sa hagdan], agaw-buhay pa,” he said, highlighting the risks residents face when crossing the river.

Secretary Dizon also noted that the agency is working to finish the nearly seven-kilometer unfinished section of the Mindoro Circumferential Road, following the cancellation of contracts with previous contractors.

With the Udalo Bridge nearing completion, residents can look forward to safer, easier travel—without the dangerous detours that have long tested their patience.
