The local entertainment industry is grieving with the passing of veteran actress Vangie Labalan. She was 83.

In a heartfelt statement released on Thursday, February 12, the Labalan family said Vangie—born Ma. Christina Bonghanoy Labalan—died around noon in Australia due to illness, surrounded by those closest to her.

“With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend,” the family wrote. “Her memories will forever remain in our hearts.”

A mother of four, Vangie was more than a seasoned actress admired for her powerful performances. She was the steady presence in her family’s life and a source of warmth to friends and colleagues in the industry. For many viewers, she was a familiar and comforting face who brought sincerity and depth to every role.

The Labalan family expressed gratitude to everyone who knew and loved her and to those who have reached out with prayers and support. “She is deeply loved and will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched,” they added.

Her remains will be brought home to the Philippines soon, with details of her wake and funeral services to be announced in the coming days.

For now, her family holds on to the love she gave so generously—a legacy that will live on far beyond the screen.
