Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto led a wire clearing operation along Mangga Avenue on May 26 as part of the city government’s efforts to improve public safety and reduce urban blight.

Joining the operation were Pasig Vice Mayor Robert Jaworski Jr. and Joe R. Zaldarriaga of Meralco.

The activity focused on removing unauthorized wire attachments on utility poles, which officials said could pose electrical hazards and contribute to cluttered streets and public spaces.

Meralco said it continues to conduct similar operations in coordination with local government units to help protect communities from possible electrical accidents while improving the appearance of urban areas.

The company also reiterated that all pole users, including telecommunications firms and internet service providers, are required to secure the necessary permits before attaching wires and other facilities to Meralco poles.

For this year alone, the power distributor reported that more than 1,200 kilograms of unauthorized wire attachments have already been removed in Pasig City.

The clearing operation forms part of Meralco’s ongoing Anti-Urban Blight Program, which aims to maintain the integrity of power facilities, improve safety, and support cleaner and more organized communities.

Pasig City has been intensifying cleanup and clearing operations in recent years as part of broader efforts by the local government to improve traffic flow, public safety, and city maintenance.
