Vice President Sara Duterte visited families displaced by the recent Mindanao earthquake, spending time with evacuees staying at the Tent City inside Ignacia A. Guillermo Central Elementary School in Barangay Nuing, Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental.
The powerful quake triggered landslides and caused widespread damage to homes and infrastructure, forcing many residents to seek temporary shelter.
During her visit, Duterte spoke with affected families and stressed the importance of being prepared for natural disasters, including earthquakes, floods, and typhoons. She reminded residents that while disasters cannot always be predicted, knowing how to respond can help save lives and reduce risks.
The Vice President also expressed appreciation for the Davao 911 team, which has been working alongside the local government to ensure the safety and welfare of evacuees and affected communities.
As the visit coincided with Father's Day, Duterte took the opportunity to greet and honor fathers staying at the evacuation site, recognizing their sacrifices and strength in caring for their families despite the challenges brought by the disaster.
She ended her message by encouraging residents to remain strong, continue praying for their families' safety, and stand united as they recover from the earthquake's impact.
