DTI Quirino: Demand high for IT gadgets, but supply limited as pandemic affects production

The Department of Trade and Industry in Quirino province found that information technology (IT) gadget supplies greatly declined since the beginning of the community quarantines.

The DTI was monitoring prices and supplies in the municipalities of Diffun, Cabarroguis and Maddela.

The DTI learned from gadget dealers that while demand is high for laptops with the approach of the new school year, not all customers could be catered to.

The pandemic affected gadget production, leading to establishments having only two to three units of a certain gadget model.

Laptop prices ranged from P18,000 to P44,375 while tablet prices ranged from P2,000 to P9,999, depending on brand and specifications. Desktop computers were not available in the establishments monitored.

DTI-Quirino will continue to monitor prices and supplies of IT products.

Meanwhile, several students in Pangasinan who started online classes with Manila universities found that laptop prices were too high in Dagupan City. One student said the cheapest available laptop was priced at P40,000.
