MANILA, Philippines – Actor Dingdong Dantes on Tuesday was awarded the Asian Star Prize at the Seoul International Awards for his role in the Philippine adaptation of the Korean series “Descendants of the Sun.”

In a pre-recorded speech, Dantes dedicated the award to the show’s staff.

The actor also mentioned frontliners worldwide who are addressing the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

“I am deeply honored to be recognized by the Seoul International Drama Awards and I share this award to all the many men and women who work tirelessly to make this show alive in the hearts of our viewers,” Dantes said.

“This award is also a tribute to all frontliners of the world – soldiers, healthcare workers, and volunteers. This award is also for my loved ones and the Filipino people. May we find consolation knowing that our stories are being appreciated, especially during these trying times,” he added.

Dantes portrayed the role of “Big Boss” in the series which was originally played by Song Joong-ki.

He is the fourth Filipino actor to receive the award after Alden Richards, Dennis Trillo and Gabby Concepcion.

The Seoul International Drama Awards was held last September 10 without an audience, but the ceremony was aired only on Tuesday via MBC Drama’s YouTube channel.
