MANILA, Philippines – Movie fans quarantined at home can still enjoy classic and contemporary films from classics to contemporaries as this years’ Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP) goes online.

The film festival’s fourth edition, which will feature at least 145 titles — 67 full-length films and 78 shorts, will take place online where viewers can buy passes to access the movies.

All proceeds of the online film festival from October 31 to November 15 will go to members of the film industry, who are among the most-hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This year’s PPP ... will continue to celebrate the heritage and potential of our film industry by spreading the love for Philippine Cinema,” Liza Diño, chairperson of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), said over the weekend.

“The festival will also promote solidarity because, ultimately, PPP4 is one way to help sustain the Filipino film industry in light of the pandemic’s devastating effects,” she added.

Films that have never been released or had a limited release will be featured under the premium selection section.

National Artist for Film Kidlat Tahimik leads the roster of premium selection films with his Ang Lakaran ni Kabunyan: Kabunyan’s Journey to Liwanag.

Classic 1980s films, like Mike de Leon’s “Batch 81” and the restored version of “Brutal” helmed by Marilou-Diaz Abaya are also among the premium films to be screened.

Apart from the Premium Selection, films in the festivals are categorized under other sections, like the PPP Short Films, Romance, Youth & Family, Classics, PH Oscar Entries, Bahaghari, Tribute, From the Regions, Documentaries, PPP Retro, Special Screenings and CineMarya.

Interested movie buffs can register via FDCPchannel.ph.

The early bird rate, worth P450 for the 16-day full run pass, is available until October 15. It is a discounted version of the P599 premium pass which allows the holder to watch any of the over 100 films for the entire duration of the festival.

Other subscription options are half-run pass worth P299 for eight days, and one-day pass worth P99. The public can also register to get a free pass for short films and public events of the festival.
