Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said President Rodrigo Duterte will wait for the result of Task Force PhilHealth’s investigation into the Phlippine Health Insurance Corporation despite the Senate’s recommendation to file cases against Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, former Philhealth president and CEO Ricardo Morales and other PhilHealth officials.

“Nirerespeto po namin yung naging desisyon ng Senado... pero pagdating po doon sa pananagutan ng mga indibidwal diyan sa PhilHealth, ay inaantay pa po ni Presidente yung resulta ng imbestigasyon ng task force na binuo niya,” Roque said on Wednesday.

(We respect the decision of the Senate… but when it comes to the sanctions for individuals in PhilHealth, the President is still waiting for the investigation results from the task force that he formed.)

He added that the conduct of hearings in aid of the investigation is part of the Senate’s duties.

Roque said that Task Force PhilHealth’s investigation is expected to finish by September 14. The task force is expected to come up with its own recommendations.

Roque also commented on the public’s plea to relieve Health Secretary Duque of his position, saying that the President still trusts the health secretary. However, if the task force recommends Duque’s removal, the President will respect it.
