Roque: Clinical trial of Russian vaccine in PH to kick off in October

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced on Thursday that the Philippines will participate in a five-month Phase 3 clinical trial of Russia's COVID-19 vaccine dubbed Sputnik V.

Roque told reporters during a virtual press conference that the clinical trial will be held from October 2020 to March 2021.

“Russia po ang magpopondo ng clinical trial ng vaccine sa Pilipinas. Bukas rin po ang Russia sa transport technology para sa local manufacturing of the vaccine,” he said.

Roque said that the vaccine expert panel review on the results of the first and second phase of the clinical trials of the Sputnik V will be held in September. The Philippines is expected to register the vaccine with the Food Drug and Administration in April 2021.

President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to get vaccinated by May 2021 upon the approval of the Department of Health and the Department of Science and Technology.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Tuesday that Sputnik V developed by the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology is effective against COVID-19.
