Actor and TV host KC Montero and his wife were arrested at a high-end bar in Makati City along with 119 other people on Sunday for allegedly violating general community quarantine (GCQ) restrictions in Metro Manila.

Makati City police chief Col. Oscar Jacildo said officers raided the Skye lounge in Barangay Bel-Air after they received information that a party attended by both foreigners and locals was being held there.

Jacildo said Montero and several others will be charged for violating Republic Act 11332 or the Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases Law, which prohibits social gatherings amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Makati City still prohibits the operation of bars under GCQ. Restaurants and cafes are allowed to operate but only at 30 percent capacity.

Montero argued that he and other party-goers did not violate any quarantine restrictions as they were observing social distancing measures and other health protocols while in the bar.

“I think what they thought was it was open so you’re allowed to go. And on top of that, everybody was practicing social distancing, the tables were far apart from each other. Wala pang five minutes, nandun na ang mga police (It was not yet five minutes, the police were there),” the actor said.

Montero assumed the police officers who arrived were waiters of the bar and that the arrest was just part of a show or gimmick.

“Medyo nagulat ako na parang may party kaya akala ko pwede talaga,” he said.

The actor said he was not aware of the quarantine protocols in Makati City and did not bother to learn them since he is a resident of Pasig City. He added that it was the first time he went outside since the lockdown.
