The Metro Rail Transit-3 management announced that it will suspend operations on four weekends in July to September to allow fast-tracking of rail replacement work.

The suspensions will be on July 4-5, August 8-9, August 21-23, and September 12-13.

The MRT-3, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Road Sector and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTRFB) will accommodate MRT passengers on the bus augmentation program on the said dates.

The suspensions will enable Sumitomo-Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the service provider for MRT-3, to perform rail destressing, rerailing, turnouts replacement, resurfacing, rail profile grinding, ballasting and tamping, and other major works for MRT-3’s trains, electrical systems, and other subsystems.

Once rail replacement work is completed, train operating speed is expected to gradually increase from 40 kph (kilometers per hour) to 60 kph by December 2020. Headway or the interval between trains will gradually decrease to 3.5 minutes.
