Bicol Disaster Management Authorities Discourage Fishermen from Sailing as Storm Approaches

The Bicol Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) Council has advised fisherfolk against going out to sea as Tropical Storm Goni approaches.

The warning was issued as part of regional preparedness for Goni, which will be named Rolly upon entry into the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

As of today, at least two fishermen remain missing after they were reported to have gone out to sea before typhoon Quinta.

The Office of Civil Defense Bicol (OCD) identified the two missing fishermen as Roberto and Jomar Dela Concepcion from Biong Gigmoto, Catanduanes.

Authorities added that fisherfolk may resume fishing activities upon the lifting of gale warnings in their respective seaboards and after careful assessment by local DRRM officers and the Coast Guard.

In Sorsogon, all vehicles bound for Visayas and Mindanao via Matnog and Pilar Port will be banned from entering the province once a typhoon signal is declared by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). This is to avoid congestion and stranding in the said ports.
