The Department of Health Bicol is now sending COVID-19 specimens to the JB Lingad Memorial Hospital in Pampanga.

This follows the decision of the DOH to temporarily stop sending specimens to the Eastern Visayas Regional COVID-19 Testing Center (EVRCTC) as it is already facing an increase in COVID-19 samples.

Bicol-based laboratories such as the Bicol Regional Diagnostic and Reference Laboratory (BRDRL) in Legazpi City are now working on a backlog of more than 1000 COVID-19 specimens after the arrival of 1,000 extraction kits for the facility’s automated extraction machines.

Meanwhile, DOH Bicol is still waiting for 10,000 more extraction kits to be released by the Bureau of Customs (BOC). Once the kits arrive, DOH Bicol will stop sending specimens to laboratories outside the region.

Yesterday, the Bicol region recorded 12 new COVID-19 positive cases.
