Zamboanga City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar has confirmed that the new Zamboanga International Airport (ZIA) construction project was removed from the national government’s Build, Build, Build program to give way to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 response.

Second District Congressman Manuel Jose Dalipe earlier said the national government allotted P200 million for the acquisition of property for the new airport. The Zamboanga City government aims to transfer the airport from within the city to Barangay Mercedes, which is part of the Second District.

But Mayor Climaco said that, according to the city treasurer, no money had yet been downloaded for initial funding of the airport.

Dalipe said he will fly to Manila to personally check on the status of the P200 million allotment.
