PSA-11 Hits 87% of PhilSys Registration Target
DAVAO CITY – The Philippines Statistics Authority (PSA) office in Davao Region has processed the pre-registration to the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) of some 1,160,177 individuals as of Dec. 9, PSA 11 regional director Pepito Amoyen said.
Speaking in a recent virtual presser, Amoyen said the number of pre-registrants account for 87 percent of the 1,326,636 individuals that PSA 11 has targeted to register for PhilSys’ Step 1 or the pre-registration phase.
PSA-11 said it presently continues to conduct the pre-registration of individuals who belong to low income families in Davao region.
PSA has prioritized heads of low income families for the National ID’s initial stage.
After which, regular registration of the general public follows in succeeding years until 2022.
Amoyen said there are about 32 provinces covered under the National ID registration process in Davao region for this year.
These provinces include Davao City, Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, Davao Occidental and Davao de Oro.
PSA is targeting to pre-register up to 5 million low income families or 9 million individuals nationwide to the National ID.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is tasked to identify the poor families who will be pre-registered to the National ID.
Amoyen said the demographic information being collected from individuals in the pre-registration include full name, sex, place of birth, date of birth, blood type, address, citizenship, marital status, mobile number and email address.
He assured privacy and security of the information gathered and the full protection against hacking as provided in the Data Privacy Act.
Meanwhile, PSA said on Dec. 12 that the second step of the PhilSys registration will start on Jan. 4, 2021.
Step 2 registration covers the validation of supporting documents and capturing of biometric information, 10 fingerprints and iris scan of those who have pre-registered (Step 1) at registration centers.
Signed by PSA Undersecretary Dennis Mapa, PSA said the Step 2 registration will be done on a gradual small scale basis to ensure that health protocols against Covid-19 are complied.
Mapa added that the PSA has already coordinated with partner local government units (LGUs) in informing Step 1 registrants about the Step 2 schedule.
Signed into law by President Rodrigo R. Duterte in August 2018, Republic Act 11055, or the Philippine Identification System Act, aims to establish a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident aliens.
The national ID shall be a valid proof of identity that shall be a means of simplifying public and private transactions, enrolment in schools, and the opening of bank accounts.
It will also boost efficiency, especially in dealing with government services where people will only need to present the ID during transactions. (PNA)
