Task Force Davao now requires travelers to remove their face masks for up to ten seconds when they enter Davao City through the various checkpoints set up by the task force.

TF Davao Commander Consolito Yecla said this is part of heightened security measures following the deadly bombings in Jolo, Sulu on August 24.

Yecla said the removal of face masks will help TF Davao members to identify persons who are wanted by the law. TF Davao also posted an updated gallery of known terrorists at the inspection areas.

Yecla also said travelers will be allowed to leave their face shields on when they remove their masks. Those not wearing face shields will be sent to the facial recognition and inspection area, where they will remove their face masks behind a transparent barrier.

Females wearing a veil or hijab will be checked at the inspection cubicles for facial recognition by female personnel.

"This move is to deter or preempt any terrorist plan against the people of Davao City," Yecla said.

He also advised travelers that the no-jacket policy is in place since jackets could be used to conceal weapons and bombs.

Yecla assured that security forces will continue to ensure the people’s safety and security even while the pandemic lingers.

"We will not lower our guard against terrorism nor allow the terrorists to execute their plan," he said.
