The Zamboanga City Health Office cautioned the public against holding celebrations and get-togethers while the COVID-19 pandemic is ongoing.

City Health Officer Dr. Dulce Amor D. Miravite said their records in the last few weeks indicate that many new patients most likely got infected while attending celebrations and get-togethers.

Miravate said people can still celebrate but with a only a limited number of guests and while still observing health protocols such as wearing of facemasks, frequent hand sanitation, proper etiquette when coughing or sneezing, and social distancing.

Zamboanga City has recorded 1,331 cases of COVID-19 so far. Of this number, 435 are active cases, 839 recoveries and 57 deaths.

Zamboanga City recorded its first COVID-19 case last March 24. The city was placed under Enhanced Community Quarantine on March 20. The city is currently under Modified General Community Quarantine, which was declared around a month ago.
