Pardoned convict and U.S. Marine LCpl. Joseph Scott Pemberton said he is willing to apologize to the Laude family, six years after he killed Filipino transgender woman Jennifer Laude.

Pemberton’s legal counsel visited the American soldier at his detention cell in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City today.

Atty. Benjamin Tolosa Jr., one of Pemberton’s lawyers, said his client has been apologetic about the incident and expressed willingness to reach out to his victim’s family.

Pemberton’s camp also confirmed that he was subjected to COVID-19 testing and his mugshot and fingerprints were also taken.

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Corrections said it has not yet started processing Pemberton’s release as they have yet to receive a copy of the pardon order from the Office of the President.

BuCor Spokesperson Gabriel Chaklag said the pardon order contains some procedures that the bureau must comply with before the release.
